Rs plunges 17P against $ to 3-wk low of 54.43

The rupee broke on Wednesday its 2-session of gaining string and depreciated by 17 paise to log its 3-week of closing low of 54.43 against the Greenback on negative local equities amid fresh dollar demand from exporters.

Fresh capital outflows and better dollar oversea also weighed on the rupee.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the domestic unit resumed lower at 54.42 a dollar from overnight close of 54.26 and moved in a narrow range of 54.3450 and 54.46 before settling at 54.46, displaying a fall of 17 paise or 0.31 per cent.

The dollar index, a gauge of six major global rivals, was up by 0.07 per cent.
