Rs 4 crore worth scrapped bank notes seized from Maha trader

Punjab police on Saturday seized Rs 1 crore in the denomination of Rs 500 notes, which has been demonetised by the government, from two persons at Sardulgarh here.

Police said, acting on tip-off they intercepted an SUV from which bundles of notes in the denomination of Rs 500 were found.

Sardulgarh DSP Narinder Singh said the money was being taken from Bathinda to Fatehabad in Haryana.

The DSP said, Sandeep, who is a commission agent in Fatehabad, along with his driver was allegedly taking the cash to the destination.

The police called the Income Tax department officials and handed over the cash to them for further investigation.

“The matter will now be looked into by the Income Tax department,” the DSP said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes in a move against black money.
