Romney ‘sees’ victory

Day after gaining an upper hand over Barack Obama in the presidential debate, a jubilant Republican hopeful Mitt Romney has said that for him, victory in the 6 November polls is ‘in sight’ and with people’s support, he is going to get it.

‘Victory is in sight, and with your help, we’ll get there,’ Romney wrote to his supporters in an e-mail seeking for donation to raise funds for his last phase of campaigning.

Thanking supporters for their backing throughout the campaign, Romney said he and his running mate Paul Ryan were doing everything to ‘protect America’s future’ and undo the ‘damages’ caused in past four years.

At a campaign speech in Colorado, Romney said the debate in Denver was a great opportunity for the American people to see two very different visions for the country.

‘The people were given a choice between two different visions for America – one where we continue down the road to become more and more like Europe, where a government gets larger and larger, more and more intrusive in our lives, spending more and more, borrowing more and more, putting us on a road to Greece,’  he said.

‘The other is a path that returns America to America. Where we restore principles of freedom, hope and opportunity that this nation has always been built upon. I will take us there with your help,’ he asserted.

All major national polls before the debate had shown Romney closely trailing behind Obama, but the Republican’s advisors now argue that the impact of his decisive victory over Obama would be seen in the new polls.

‘This is a campaign that believes he can win, once Romney was on stage with the President, and he was able to score points against him, there was a Wizard of Oz effect that pulled back the curtain. There’s a renewed effort and spirit that wasn’t there a couple days ago,’ Republican strategist Ron Bonjean was quoted as saying by The Hill.

The Romney campaign received another boost Thursday as it was endorsed by National Rifle Association. ‘We are proud to endorse Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for President and Vice President of the US. Mitt and Paul will defend all of our constitutional freedoms from those who would seek to limit or deny them. We encourage every freedom-loving American to vote for the Romney-Ryan ticket on 6 November,’ said Chairman of the NRA Political Victory Fund Chris Cox.

‘THAT WAS NOT REAL ROMNEY’

President Barack Obama, in campaign appearances after the debate, said that the Romney he met on the stage on Wednesday night was not the same Romney he knew. ‘When I got on the stage, I met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney. But I know it couldn’t have been Mitt Romney – because the real Mitt Romney has been running around the country for the last year promising USD 5 trillion in tax cuts that favour the wealthy,’ he said. ‘Yet, the fellow on the stage last night – who looked like Mitt Romney – said he did not know anything about that.’

The first of three presidential debates between US President Barack Obama and Republican contender Mitt Romney has generated a staggering 10.3 million tweet sent out over a 1.5-hour period. The popular social micro blogging web site said it is the most tweeted event in recent US political history, beating out any of the 2012 convention speeches, the ABC News reported.
