Rohtak murder: 9th accused kills self

The woman was gang-raped by nine men who are the residents of the same village — Bahu Akbarpur village in Rohtak, Haryana, where the decomposed body of the victim was found. The vital organs of her body were found missing and sticks, stones, blades, candles and condoms were found stuffed into her private parts.

On Monday afternoon, eight accused were arrested from Patgiri in Rohtak. They all were hiding at a house there.

“The accused have been identified as Padam Singh, Manveer, Sarwar, Rajesh, Sunil, Santosh, Pawan and another Sunil,” said Amit Bhatia, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Rohtak). He is heading the Special Investigation Team formed four days ago.

Bhatia further added that all the arrested persons have confessed to their involvement in the crime but have not disclosed their encounter with the girl.

“It is a matter of investigation as to how they approached the girl. Whether she was abducted near her house or was lured for something is still a mystery,” he said. All the accused are between 20-30 years of age.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Bhatia confirmed that the ninth accused, identified as Somveer(35) committed suicide. “Nine persons were involved in the heinous crime, out of which one has committed suicide. Remaining eight accused will be produced in a local court on Tuesday morning and the police remand will be demanded,” he added.

The deceased face was eaten up by animals, her lungs and heart were also found missing. Her skull had fractures and there were injury marks on both her thighs and chest. This brutal incident was a grim reminder of the December 16 gang-rape in Delhi.

“Somveer, who committed suicide, was admitted to a private hospital in Bawana in outer Delhi from where the doctors refered him to a government hospital. He was declared dead by the government hospital staff.

The person who brought him to Delhi gave crucial hints to the Delhi Police about his involvement in the Rohtak gang-rape case. Accordingly, we have informed Rohtak police and a team is likely to reach Delhi by late Monday night,” Vikramjit Singh, DCP (outer) said.
