Rohit Sharma recovering, keen to slot back as ODI opener

Rohit Sharma, on the sidelines after he sustained a finger injury during India’s tour to England, is hopeful of returning to the Indian team ahead of the important tour of Australia in late November, with an eye on slotting back as opener for the 2015 World Cup.

The 27-year-old India batsman said he was comfortable at the top of the order in 50-overs cricket, having been given the opportunity since June 2013. ‘For the past year and a half, opening the innings has quite suited me,’ said Rohit, who had to return home with a fractured finger during the England series. ‘It’s been since last year’s Champions Trophy that I started opening. I am enjoying the role of an opener. I don’t want to talk about what I have done in the last 18 months or so. But, if you look at the records, I have done well.
