Robbers stop two cars, beat up and loot passengers

Unidentified miscreants stopped two cars at Chetla, beat up the passengers and looted gold jewelleries before escaping. The incident took place on Saturday night at Chetla’s Rakhal Das Auddy Road.

The miscreants threatened to kill the passengers and snatched a gold chain from one person. He was hit on his head with a wooden stick.

Another miscreant snatched the mangalsutra from a woman’s neck before speeding off from there.

The victims went to Chetla Police Station to lodge a complaint. Police started an investigation.

Meanwhile, the primary investigation revealed that the miscreants were local criminals.

“We were a group of 27 people, including, four drivers. We went on a trip at North 24 Parganas’ Taki on December 22. On Saturday night, we were coming back to the city,” said Susanta Sen, a trader who was among the victims.

“We were divided into four groups. We shared four cars to come back to Kolkata. But two cars went
to petrol pump on the way back home at Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. But the other two cars were continuing the journey towards our locality,” Sen said.

“The spot of the incident was near ‘Desher Khabar’ food stall at Rakhal Das Auddy Road. A speeding car which was behind our car suddenly overtook us and stood in front of us forcing our driver to apply the brakes. At least 4-5 men and a woman took our driver out of the car.

“They started to beat our driver. My friend Gopi Tewari tried to stop them. But one miscreant hit him with wooden stick. He was bleeding profusely.

A miscreant snatched his gold chain and threatened me to keep my mouth shut, otherwise he would kill me,” Sen further said.

“In the meantime, another car from our team came there. Most of the women were sitting there in that car. Some woman including my wife came down from the car. They tried to stop those criminals. But they were also manhandled by them. A miscreant snatched the mangalsutra from my wife,” Sen added.
