Robbers steal jewellery, cash; strip and tie woman to chair

Two robbers allegedly robbed a woman at knifepoint of Rs 10 lakh while she was alone at her house in Lahori Gate area of North Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. According to the senior police officers of the North district, they have registered a case of robbery and are investigating the matter from all possible angles. 

“Although, we have registered a case of robbery under relevant sections of the IPC at the Lahori Gate police station, in the course of the investigation, it appears that the robbery was staged,” said one of the senior police officials, privy to the investigation. According to an investigating officer, the incident took place at around 1 pm when the woman, in her mid-thirties was alone at her house on the third floor of a building in the Mahavir market at Lahori Gate.

Police said that her husband, who works in a private company had gone to work, while her two children, ages two and five, had reportedly gone to a relative’s house. “As per the statement given by the woman, two unidentified men knocked her door. When she opened the door, they forcefully barged into the drawing room and demanded cash and jewellery at knifepoint. Scared, the woman pointed towards her almirah from which they took away cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh,” said the officer.

“After which, they allegedly forced the woman to strip, tied her to a chair, covered her mouth with a duct tape and chopped off some of the locks of her hair. After doing this, they fled the house and locked it from outside,” added the officer.

The officer said that the woman reportedly somehow freed herself and made a PCR call. After which a team of police officials rushed to the spot and recorded her version.

Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Lahori Gate police station against unknown persons. Police further said that they are scanning CCTV footages of the nearby shops and are also analysing the call detail records of the complainant’s family. Further investigation is on.
