Robbers loot valuables from doctor’s residence

Tension gripped Naktala on Tuesday evening after a gang of robbers stormed into the house of a doctor and looted valuables on gun point.

The family members alleged that after dialing the emergency number of Kolkata Police, a team reached the house after the criminals fled with valuables.

The gang raided the house of Dr Ranadip Choudhury at the Shivmandir area of Naktala. They pointed gun at the family members of Dr Choudhury after entering the house. The miscreants threatened them of dire consequences if they raise an alarm.

One of the members of Choudhury’s family called at the police control room by dialing 100, while the dacoits were looting valuables from the house.  They alleged that the accused could have been arrested if the police would have arrived on time. Police have, however, denied the allegation.

The local people have raised questions on the law and order situation in the area as there had been a series of robbery incidents at Naktala, Bansdroni and the other adjoining areas which came under the jurisdiction of Kolkata.

Police said that a gang of 4-6 miscreants stormed into the house of Choudhury a little after 7.30 pm on Tuesday. They snatched the locker’s key on gun point and looted valuables and hard cash worth Rs nearly few lakhs. Police were interrogating the family members and some local residents. They were conducting raids at various parts of the city to arrest the culprits.
