Road rage: 4 held for assaulting DDA officer, wife near Siri Fort

Four men have been arrested in a case of road rage in a South Delhi area.

The incident took place late Wednesday night when the accused allegedly molested the wife of a senior Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officer. They allegedly filmed the incident and threatened the victim’s family of dire consequences. The police said the four were in an inebriated state.

The incident took place around 11 pm when the officer and his wife were going to drop their 10-year-old daughter to school as she was going with her schoolmates on a trip to Spain on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

When they reached a red light near the Siri Fort Auditorium in their Ford EcoSport, a speeding white Maruti Swift rammed into their car. When the victim (name withheld) got down of his car to check the damage caused to his vehicle, all four, seated in the Swift car, also got down and got into an argument.

According to the police, the four identified as Sagar Pawar, Mandeep Pawar, Rahul and Sagar abused the vicitm, who is on DANICS deputation in the DDA.

In the meantime, the victim’s wife, too, deboarded to calm down the situation but the four did not even spare her and allegedly misbehaved with her.

The victims told the police that the accused even filmed the incident and when she opposed to their behaviour and even pushed her.

They also shouted at the couple’s daughter, the victims stated the FIR.

Two policemen – Sub Inspector Sachin and Constable Chander – who were patrolling in the area saw the incident and came forward to help. But the four accused even misbehaved with the policemen. A PCR call was made and the four were arrested.

In a Facebook post, the officer has shared his ordeal. The post reads: “Those guys continued to misbehave with us and kept fighting with the police but saw humanity at its best when a cab whom I stopped to drop my wife and daughter to school didn’t even take money from them. What a guy!! And on the other hand these educated hooligans supposedly toppers and studying in Amity had no sense and couldn't even stop themselves from fighting and abusing with us even after seeing I’m with a 10 yr old girl who is crying out of fear and a worried wife .!!!”

However, senior police officials of the South District refused to confirm if the arrested were Amity students, adding that they all were residents of Shahpur Jat and were aged above 30 years.

A case under Sections 279, 354A, 509, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Hauz Khas Police station.
