Road mishap claims Panchayat Pradhan, 6-yr-old daughter missing

The Pradhan of Jibantala-1 panchayat, Imran Ali Mollah was travelling with his family, when their vehicle met with an accident on Basanti Highway near Chandipur late on Sunday. The vehicle skidded on the rain soaked road and hit a pillar at Bamania Bridge. The vehicle then veered off-course and eventually fell into the canal underneath.

Mollah’s wife and brother-in-law were critically injured and admitted to a local private hospital. But police are yet to find any trace of his young daughter Monalisa. The local administration believes there is no chance of finding the girl alive. But a team of police-divers, rescue workers and locals were putting in their best efforts to rescue her.

The locals have alleged that the rash driving was responsible for the incident. Cars racing each other, rash motorbikes and wayward trucks can be seen zooming through the Basanti highway every now and then. Road mishaps occur frequently in the area.

The speeding vehicles often lost control and end up taking lives. Pedestrians are not spared either as some have ended up under the wheels of rashly driven cars while crossing the road. Imran, who was popularly known as Jony in his locality, was coming after attending a family programme. Many locals were saddened by his demise.
