A road accident claimed the life of a Trinamool Congress leader at Malda on Wednesday. Three persons were critically injured in these incidents and they were admitted in a local hospital.

Police said 45-year-old Mujibar Sheikh was killed in the accident and his co-commuters were heavily injured. Mujibar, a resident of Kaliachak was a local Trinamool Congress leader and his wife Nursheda Biwi was a Panchayat pradhan.

Mujibar Sheikh was a coal trader by profession. He was going to Siliguri with some of his family members to attend a business meeting. Mujibar was sitting on the front seat when the vehicle had a head-on collision with another vehicle.

“Mujibar’s brothers, Isreal and Samsul, and the driver Hoda were heavily injured. The errant vehicle was caught near Kaliachak,” said a police officer. However, the locals have alleged that rough driving has been a regular affair in Englishbazar area where this accident has taken place.

“Many vehicles rush by this area without give horns. We have witnessed many accidents here where many children have also been killed. “We will agitate in front of the police station so that police takes some steps of rash driving here. It has become a major issue now,” alleged local shop owners.
