Return gift: After poll win, UP CM declares 40 districts drought-hit

Voters gave a stunning surprise in UP by-elections to the Samajvadi Party, by offering it eight seats in the legislative assembly out of eleven constituencies where polls were held. And the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav didn’t delay in reciprocating.

He rewards the people of the state by declaring forty districts as drought hit and by refraining the revenue department from realisation of taxes in these districts till March 31, 2015. The Chief Minister has also wrote to the Union government, demanding Rs 6,061 crore package from the Centre for dealing with the natural calamity.

Forty districts in the state have had less than 50 percent of the normal rains due to which CM has declared them drought hit. Revenue realisation has been suspended in these districts. To deal with the drought, the state has demanded special package of Rs 6,061 crore from the Centre for giving subsidy to farmers and providing relief to them.

The districts which have been declared drought hit include — Kanpur, Unnao, Amethi, Muzaffarnagar, Deoria, Azamgarh, Faizabad, Saharanpur, Badaun, Kannauj, Rampur, Bareilly, Etawah, Firozabad, Mainpuri besides others.

The district magistrates of the affected districts have been asked to carry out relief work in the respective areas.
