Retired IT officer murdered in Rohini

A 70-year-old woman, who was a retired assistant income tax commissioner, was found dead at her residence in Rohini Sector 8 on Wednesday evening.

Her hands and legs were tied with a rope and the house was ransacked, which seemed to the motive of the murder, police said. The deceased has been identified as Gurjeet Kaur, who was living alone at her house in Rohini Sector 8. Around 4 pm, a domestic help came to her house and found the door open. She saw  Kaur sitting in a chair in her bedroom, with her hands and legs tied with a rope.

She immediately informed the neighbours and a doctor was called for check up, who declared her dead. A neighbour, Rajesh, then made a police control room (PCR) call. A police team and a crime branch team inspected the house. It  was ransacked, and prima facie, it appears that the assailant made a friendly entry into the house and then committed the crime. ‘A case of murder has been registered at Rohini North police station. The house is ransacked but we are investigating the case from all possible angles,’ said M A Rizvi, additional deputy commissioner of police (Outer). Kaur had employed two domestic helps at her house in shifts. According to sources, the other servant has gone missing and police are trying to trace her.

Kaur’s husband died four years ago. Of her three children, a son lives in the US while two daughters live in east Delhi. All children are married, said the official.

Her body has been sent to Baba Bhim Rao Ambedkar hospital in Rohini Sector 3 and the family members have been informed, police said.
