Retired engineer murders domestic help, surrenders

A 75-year-old retired engineer murdered the domestic help in his house at New Town and surrendered himself to the police. The incident took place in the evening on Sunday.

Police said that the victim Radha Sarkar (40) used to work as domestic help in the house of the accused Subrata Dalal. She was a resident of Kanchrapara in North 24 Parganas.

On Sunday evening, the septuagenarian came to New Town police station with blood stains on his clothes. Everyone initially thought that he had met with an accident. But they noticed that he was walking quite normally and there was no injury on his body. He remained silent initially when the duty officer wanted to know what went wrong.

He broke down in tears when the duty officer and other police officers in the police station asked him repeatedly and told that he had killed the domestic help in his house.

Though he had not clearly stated any reason behind killing her, but claimed that the incident took place after a quarrel over their family related dispute. Policemen rushed to Dalal’s residence at Garden Tower IX, Uni World City at New Town and found the body lying on the floor of a room.

She had injuries on her neck, chest and hands. The policemen took her to hospital where she was declared brought dead.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Dalal killed the woman by hitting her head repeatedly with a heavy iron bar, a sickle and hammer.

“It seems that Dalal had planned to commit the crime when the victim was not in the house and kept iron rod, sickle and hammer ready hidden somewhere in the flat. It seems that he started beating her up soon when the victim had turned down some of his proposal,” said a police officer.

The victim’s family members have been informed. Police initiated a murder case in this connection.
