Retd Jet Airways pilot kills self after quarrel with wife

In a shocking incident, a 61-year-old retired Jet Airways pilot allegedly committed suicide after he fired at himself at his residence in the posh Mavilla Apartment in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Saturday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Anand Kumar Singh. Senior police officials of the East district said that they have not recovered a suicide note from the possession of the deceased as the suicide was not pre-planned.

According to DCP (East) Rishi Pal, the deceased was depressed as he was suffering from some medical problems. “Five to Six months back, Anand Kumar had a kidney operation after which he was not fit,” said Pal.

Senior police officers said that the incident took place at around 4 pm at the Mavilla Apartments where Anand lived with his wife and daughter. “His wife, Laxmi and daughter, Abhilasha had gone to a neighbour’s house when he allegedly took a pistol and shot himself. Two rounds were fired.”

Sources said that Singh had taken voluntary retirement a few years back on medical grounds. A senior police official added that Singh had problems in his kidney due to which he had to take voluntary retirement few years back and a year back he had a kidney operation after which he used to stay at home mostly.

Sources on the other hand said that Singh allegedly had a heated argument with his wife and daughter. The fight escalated so much so that Singh immediately went inside his room, brought out his gun and starting firing indiscriminately in the air.

When Singh started firing, Singh’s wife and daughter, out of fear, allegedly ran out of the house to their neighbour’s house, added the sources.

Sources further said that after a series of gunshots, there was pin drop silence, when Singh’s wife and daughter tip toed back into their house and found Singh lying in a pool of blood on the side of their bed. They were shocked and immediately called the police and informed their neighbours.

The police team reached the apartment to inspect the spot. In the meantime, they rushed Singh to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police said Singh has two daughters. The elder one is married and staying in Germany whereas the younger one was staying with him.
