‘Renovated’ school locked from last 3 years

With no electricity available, the new school building of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidayala in northwest district of Delhi is lying vacant from the past three years. Due to infrastructural problems, around 50-80 students have to manage in a single classroom, further hampering their studies.

“Two sections sit together in a single class room. Since we don’t have proper designated rooms for each section, we have to adjust in a single classroom. And due to same reasons, we also have to attend evening classes. Though the new building is ready, its not operational till now,” said a student of the school.

According to sources, in 2010 the school building was in ‘bad condition.’ After two years, PWD took up the infrastructural work and renovated the school building. Despite being renovated three years ago, the building still remains non-operational as there are lights and fans installed in the building. In an RTI reply which was filed by GS Annad, it came to light that former principal Kamaljeet Sethi spent around Rs 13lakh on supposedly infrastructure facilities for the school. According to the RTI, the infrastructure included CCTV cameras worth Rs 49,950, RO system worth Rs 49,500, crockery for the school worth Rs 17,426, principal chair worth Rs 10,013 , principal table for Rs19,500 and such expenses.

Though former principal of the school did enough development, the current principal of the school has to run from pillar to post to get the work done. Even after several attempts, the current principal Shalini was not available for clarification.
