Reliance discoms owe Rs 5,850 cr to city’s power-generating units

The outstanding amount has been calculated till January 31, 2015. A senior power department official said there was a heavy outstanding against the two discoms due to the non-payment of dues, which have accumulated over the year. The department has regularly been sending reminders to the discoms in this regard. “Of the total outstanding of Rs 5,850 crore, Rs 4,350 crore is due towards Gencos — IPGCL and PPCL. Moreover, the discoms owe Rs 1,500 crore to the Delhi Transco Ltd,” the official said.

On February 18, Anil Ambani-owned discoms had said before the apex court that if the government did not pay the outstanding dues amounting to Rs 14,500 crore, residents of the national Capital would be saddled with a backlog in tariff dues on a future date. The Reliance discoms said they were not getting a cost-reflective tariff and there was a mismatch between the cost of power purchase and the revenue earned on it.

The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has already served a notice to the BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) for not paying dues worth Rs 90 crore early this year. The DVC has threatened to stop supplying 180 MW power from February 22 midnight, if the BRPL does not pay up the dues.
The DVC had stopped supplying power to BRPL’s sister firm, BSES Yamuna Power Limited, in 2013.
