Rehabilitation of differently-abled persons our top priority : Minister

Addressing the issue of work being done by the Government regarding rehabilitatng Persons with Disabilities Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Krishan Pal Gurjar in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday said, “To provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to the persons with disabilities District Disability Rehabilitation Centres are set up in the identified & approved districts of the country under the Scheme for Implementation of the Persons with Disabilities Act. 310 districts have been approved for setting up DDRCs and out of which funds have been sanctioned from time to time to 249 DDRCs.” “However, the Department has not received any proposal for setting up rehabilitation centres for physically handicapped/mentally retarded persons and opening schools for such children with Central assistance in the country, including Madhya Pradesh. Notwithstanding the above, the Department is implementing Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme under which the Central Government has been providing financial assistance only in the form of grant in aid to NGOs for their projects for the differently-abled persons,” he added.
