Regular flight delays at IGI worry airport authorities

In a major discomfiture to the IGI Airport, it has come to light that as many as 84 flights are being delayed daily due to various reasons (from November 2014-January 2015). The reactionary delay usually happens when a passenger or baggage is transferred from one fight to the other.

According to the data of DIAL (Delhi International Airport Limited), a total of 7,684 flights left late from the airport during the time frame ranging from November 1, 2014 to January 31, 2015.
The data shows that the highest number of flights were delayed in December 2014 (3,569) followed by January 2015 (2,932) and November 2014 (1,183).

According to the recent figures released by DIAL, national carrier Air India, tops the list with highest number (2,174 flights) of late departures. Jet Airways stands at the second position with 1,992 delayed flights.

As per the data, a total of 4,121 flights left late from the airport between July 1 to September 30, 2014. The data shows that the highest number of flights were delayed in September (1,097) followed by July (896) and August (826). While in October 2014, a total of 1,528 flights got delayed.

Earlier In May 2014, a total of 9,416 flights departed from IGI Airport, out of which 1,302 flights were delayed. Similarly, in June 2014, a total of 9,161 flights took off from IGI Airport. While 7,566 of these flights departed on time, 1,595 flights got delayed. Sources in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have informed that the authorities are planning to take steps in this regard.
