Red Road hit-and-run case: Md Sohrab gets bail

Md Sohrab, former RJD MLA and father of the main accused of the Red Road hit-and-run case, was granted bail when he appeared before the Bankshall Court on Tuesday.

Sohrab was absconding since the incident had taken place on January 13 that claimed the life of an Indian Air Force officer, Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud. The police had issued a look out notice against Sohrab.

This morning he appeared before the court and pleaded for bail. The court has granted him bail against a bond of Rs 1500 and on the condition to appear before the court on all hearing days.

Sohrab’s name had appeared in the charge-sheet that the police had filed before the court a few days ago. In the charge-sheet it is mentioned that investigation had revealed that he had helped the prime accused to flee and attempted to tamper with evidence. All the sections against him were bailable ones.

The investigation had revealed that Sohrab came to know about the crime his younger son, Shambia Sohrab, had committed within a few minutes after the incident.

He along with two friends of Shambia--Jhony and Shanu had helped the accused to flee from the city. Jhony and Shanu were arrested earlier and they were granted bail after the police filed the charge-sheet. Investigation had revealed that Jhony and Shanu were not directly involved with the crime.

Police had conducted raids at several places in search of Sohrab. But they failed to arrest him. His counsel had appeared before the court for his interim bail before the charge-sheet was submitted. The bail plea was rejected then. The investigating officers had claimed that the accused’s elder brother Ambia was not involved in the crime, but Sohrab was well aware of the incident.
