Reality show contestant’s brother arrested for wife’s suicide after dowry harassment

The brother of a musical TV show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’s contestant has been booked for dowry death of his wife. Vipin Sagar has been arrested in connection to alleged suicide of his wife Shivangni in Bharat Nagar area of Delhi’s North-west district.

On Wednesday night, Shivangini (19) was found hanging in her Wazirpur home where she lived with her husband Vipin Sagar after marriage. She was rushed to the hospital by her brother but was declared brought dead.

Vipin is the brother of Tarun Sagar who appeared on a famous musical TV show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

Vipin Sagar and Shivangini ( 19) got married in September this year. According to the girl’s family members, Vipin subjected her to cruelty just after marriage and often beat her up.

“Vipin sang in the local jagrans and earned a small amount of around Rs 2,000 while his brother Tarun appeared in a TV show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and ever since, his earning increased many folds. This often led to inferiority complex in Vipin and the frustration was vented out on my daughter. He even demanded a high-end motorbike that costs over one lakh to match his brothers Scorpio car. His demands for cash was growing day by day,” said Vijay Rana, father of Shivangni.

The grandfather of the girl Devraj claimed: “Shivangni was also pregnant. The accused responsible for her death should be given the most severe punishment.”

After their love marriage, Vipin’s family never accepted Shivangni and they had to do a court marriage. This forced Vipin to live separately in the same locality.

“A case has been registered under Sections 304(B) and 498(A)/34 of the IPC and investigation is on,” said a senior police officer.
