Raul to leave Schalke

Veteran Spanish striker Raul Gonzalez Blanco has decided not to extend his contract with German football club Schalke04 and will leave the Bundesliga when his deal expires at the end of the season.

After almost two years at Schalke, Raul informed the club that he would not don the royal blue jersey for another season.

'After long and careful consideration, I have made the decision that I will no longer play for Schalke next season,' said Raul. The 34-year-old striker and three-time Champions League winner joined Schalke from Real Madrid in 2010 and has scored 27 goals in 64 matches.

Last season he won the German Cup (DFB Pokal) with Schalke after a 5-0 win over second division team MSV Duisburg in the final.

'There were several factors involved in my decision but the most important aspect is definitely my family. I will now sit down with my agent and take some time to consider the offers.' Raul added.

Schalke plans a farewell game at the end of the season. Furthermore the club announced to reserve Raul's jersey number seven as an appreciation.
