Ration dealer beaten up for smuggling

Local residents on Friday beat up a ration dealer of a fair price shop in Birbhum after it came to light that he was smuggling food grains allotted for the villagers.

Local people gheraoed the dealer after a power cut in the area. The villagers found that the dealer engaged some more people to carry food grains. Subsequently, the villagers attacked him and some of his relatives at the same village. They found stock of food grains in his house as well as in houses of his relatives.

The villagers alleged that the dealer used to tell that there was no supply of food grains from the government and deprived the beneficiaries.

The villagers took away the food grains and kept in a store room. Later, they informed the district administration. The state government officials took necessary steps and brought the situation under control.
