Rape victim’s mother shot at, assailants still at large

She is currently being operated upon by a team of doctors at AIIMS Trauma Centre. The two accused are yet to be identified.

The incident happened on Friday morning when the victim was going to a hospital along with her daughter at around 8:45 am. As soon as they got out of their house in Jamia Nagar, they were intercepted by two men whose faces were masked. One of them shot the woman in the back and then fled in a motorcycle.

The police was then informed about the incident after which they reached the spot and the women was shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The investigators, on the basis of the daughter’s statement, registered a case of attempt to murder.

The victim’s family had alleged that the girl, studying in Class IX, was raped by local builder Sajid  in August. The daughter also alleged that the entire act was filmed and she was also raped by three other men along with Sajid. Furthermore, the family was under a lot of pressure to withdraw the case but they refused to do so.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal had expressed shock at the brazen attack and said: “The 15-year-old was gang-raped by the accused and a case was registered on December 11 and the accused have been roaming freely all this while. I have been talking to the victim’s family and I found that it was her mother who was fighting her daughter’s case and was supporting her.”

The DCW has also constituted a commission to  inquire into the matter. The police have not yet confirmed the identity of the assailants as Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Romil Baniya said that the four accused and their connection with the shooting is a matter of investigation.
