Rape perpetrators still at large, Rohtak simmers

Almost 10 days after the gruesome rape and murder of a 28-year-old mentally challenged Nepalese woman in Rohtak, the perpetrators are still at large.

Rohtak Police failed to identify a 28-year old victim on February 1. Three days after she was missing, her body was found in a decomposed state in a field near Bahu Akbarpur village in Rohtak, Haryana. The vital organs were found missing whereas sticks, stones, blades, candles and condoms were found stuffed in her private parts. 

According to police, the victim came to India two months back for medical treatment. Since then she was staying with her elder sister in Chinyot Colony in Rohtak. The victim’s sister has been living in the area for the past two years and was working at a private clinic as a helper. “Her parents in Nepal wanted to arrange her marriage at an early date. Before that they sent her for treatment, ” a police official said.

Speaking to Millennium Post, DSP, Law and Order (Rohtak) Yashpal Khatana said, “A special investigation team has been formed and a probe is on to establish the identity of the culprits.” Meanwhile, Amit Bhaita, DSP, Rohtak, who is heading the SIT said, “We will crack the case soon. Raids are being conducted to nab the accused. Our teams have gathered some clues from the crime scene that are sufficient to nail the culprits.”

“The SIT have got some crucial leads in the case. The accused will be nabbed soon and they will get the most stringent punishment for this heinous crime,” said Rohtak’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shashank Anand. Bhatia further added that the cyber cell has also been included in the team to zero in on mobile phone users near the spot at the time. 

So far more than 20 persons have been questioned. Police have also announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the culprits.
