Rape capital lives up to its name

Delhi police have registered two more rape cases in the crime capital, apart from the gang-rape in the bus, in the last 36 hours.

In the first incident, a minor girl was a victim of rape in Central Delhi’s Turkman Gate. The incident took place on Sunday night, where a six-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour.

The victim, a resident of DDA flats at Turkman Gate, was playing outside her flat late in the evening.

According to the police, the accused, Rashid, 22, called her into his flat by tempting her with waffers.

‘When the child returned home after a long time, she was crying and bleeding profusely,’ said a police officer. She was immediately taken to LNJP hospital, where she was stated to be critical.

‘We have registered the case and have arrested the accused. Further investigation is in process,’ said a police official.

The second case was reported from New Ashok Nagar area, where a 20-year-old girl was raped. According to the victim, she was raped by her 28-year-old neighbour on 28 November. But she was unable to inform any one because she was afraid.

After the complaint and confirmation of rape in medical examination, a case regarding the incident was registered on Sunday.

On the basis of the statement given by the victim, the accused, Shamim, was arrested from his house  and was booked under the sections of rape at New Ashok Nagar police station.
