‘Rangasamy govt pulling development backwards’

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister questioned the AINRC government’s track record on various issues, including the arrest of Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy, and asked the electorate to defeat the fledgling party besides her archrival DMK and Congress.

Canvassing votes for the lone seat where she has fielded M V Omalingam for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls, the AIADMK General Secretary asked what action Rangasamy had taken on these issues and alleged it had not done anything good for people of the UT.

‘Promises and assurances remained on paper while welfare schemes had not been implemented. The state’s infrasturcture had not received any fillip during AINRC’s three-year government’, Jayalalithaa charged.

‘Law and order is in shambles. Has AINRC ever vocied its concern for the release of fishermen from Karaiakal arrested by Sri Lankan Navy? No. Whenever our Tamil Nadu fishermen are apprehended I take efforts for their release and when they are freed, Karaikal fishermen also walk free due to my efforts,’ she said.

She asked if AINRC had ever spoken in support of Sri Lankan Tamils issue or at least passed a resolution in the assembly, in an apparent reference to her government passing a slew of resolutions in this matter.
