Ramdev’s aide arrested in passport case

Just 20 days ahead of the beginning of the yoga guru Ramdev's joint protest with Anna Hazare at Ramlila grounds in New Delhi, his close aide Acharya Balkrishna was arrested on Friday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from the Patanjali Yogpeeth campus in Haridwar amidst high drama. He has been arrested in the fake passport case.

Earlier, a CBI special court in Dehradun issued non-bailable warrants against Balkrishna, who failed to appear before it.

Ramdev's supporters staged protest against the arrest outside the CBI office in Derhadun.
Balkrishna was scheduled to appear before the CBI judge on Friday morning to face the charges of submitting fake educational degree to get an Indian passport. His counsel had requested the court to give his client 10 more days to appear before it. The judge rejected the plea and issued an arrest warrant. Following court orders, a five-member CBI team reached Haridwar and took Balkrishna into custody.
