Ramdev wants liver yoga at top hospital

A leading centre for the management of liver and biliary diseases is going to get a few tips from Yoga Guru Ramdev. The mascot of BJP government, who has recently been feted with Z-category security, would be at the prestigious Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) on Wednesday to give a few nuggets of wisdom to the doctors on how yoga could be used to treat liver ailment.

However, Ramdev’s enumeration would be behind closed doors and interaction with media not allowed. The Baba from Patanjali Peeth in Haridwar is ordinarily known for being media savvy but the sudden censorship has many dismayed including those who looked forward to benefit from him.

The institute spokesperson who earlier on Tuesday informed media of Baba coming over for the ‘spiritual morning’ interaction, as an after though, later in the evening shot a missive saying, “Please be advised that the event on 3rd December 2014 is a purely spiritual one, and no media interaction is scheduled with Baba Ramdev.”

When enquired further on why is Baba Ramdev has been invited for the ‘Convergence week on Hepatitis’ which clearly is not his field of excellence, a member from the institute said “We have invited him so that he can teach us Yoga for liver. And also a spiritual lecture would be held with him and staff of the institute.” Whether Yoga will be able to cure the Hepatitis, even the institute administration seemed unsure of that.

Established in order to be recognised as an international centre of excellence for the diagnosis and management of liver and biliary diseases, the institute  is a mono-superspeciality hospital for liver and biliary diseases. It has also been given the status of Deemed University by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
