Rain washes away Day 3 play

Rain continued to play spoilsport in the second cricket Test between India and South Africa at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as the third day’s play was also called off without a single ball being bowled.

With Day 2 already gifted to the rains, persistent showers continued and the match officials were forced to cancel play till lunch and then take an early call for stumps.

The teams and officials did not even come to the ground as steady downpour continued throughout the night into the morning turning the ground into a sorry state.

There were puddles of water everywhere and even if there would be bright sunshine, no way would the ground staff been able to prepare it for some play.

The play was officially called off at 11:30. With the weather forecast for the next two days also remaining same, there is little or no possibility of a result unless the rain atleast stops on Monday.

India were 80 for no loss in reply to South Africa’s first innings score of 214 on the opening day. Shikhar Dhawan (45) and Murali Vijay (28) are at the crease. Weather permitting, the match will resume at 9:15 am on Tuesday.
