Rain lashes city, several areas waterlogged

Though the rain brought down the mercury by a few notches, parts of Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Nehru Place to ITO, Laxmi Nagar, Outer Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan were the worst affected with waterlogging and traffic congestions. A flood-like situation prevailed in Central Delhi with the over-flowing of sewer water and drains, throwing life out of gear.

Vehicles moved at a snail’s pace as a major gridlock was reported at BRT Corridor to Mathura Road in South Delhi. Roads leading to Pragati Maidan, ITO remained blocked as heavy rain <g data-gr-id="39">threw</g> traffic signals out of gear. Roads leading to Rajghat, ISBT and Outer Ring Road were one of the worst affected areas during the peak hours.

“It took me an hour and a half extra to reach ITO from Shastri Park. As the road from Rajghat to ITO is absolutely flooded, it is impossible for commuters to drive through Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. Moreover, because of the rain, traffic movement was also paralysed which took me an extra 1.5 hours to reach my destination,” said Sanjeev Saxena, a local resident.

Traffic police said that long tailbacks were witnessed on the Mehrauli to Badarpur Road, Dhaula Kuan, NH-8, Delhi Cantonment and Naraina’s Loha Mandi. Traffic at the entire BRT Corridor stretch from Saket to Lajpat Nagar remained clogged.

Mahipalpur-Badarpur Road, Ring Road, Barapullah flyover and IIT-flyover, South Extension and Ashram crossing in South Delhi were badly hit. Slow vehicular movements were witnessed in Green Park, Hauz Khas and INA Area.
