Railgate: CBI files chargesheet, alleges that Bansal’s nephew demanded bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) has alleged in the chargesheet that former railway minister Pawan Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singhla had demanded Rs.10 crore from Mahesh Kumar for his promotion to the post of Member (Electrical) Rs.10 crore was to be delivered in installments. ‘Rs.2 crore was to be paid immediately, Rs.3 crore immediately after appointment as Member (Electrical) and remaining Rs 5 crore after 5-6 months. The two middlemen of Chandigarh were acting as conduit,’  CBI said.  

The CBI further alleged that initial installment of Rs 2 crore was again decided to be delivered in two installments. Rs one crore on 3 May and another one crore after 3-4 days of first delivery. An amount of Rs. 90 lakh (approx) was being paid to Singhla at Chandigarh when CBI laid a trap and arrested two persons.  

Former railway minister Pawan Bansal had to resign after several of his relatives and two sons name surfaced after the railway scam was unearthed.

The CBI has not included Bansal’s name in the charge sheet giving a clean chit to the minister. His personel secretary Rahul Bhandari was also not named in the charge sheet.

 However, the CBI is already probing his role in a PE which they lodged investigating allegations that Bhandari and another railway board member Kul Bhushan favored a builder in allocation of a railway land.
