Rail scam: CBI arrests 1 more

Investigations on a tip off that cash was being exchanged in the recruitment of Railway Police Force (RPF) officials led the CBI to unearth the trail in the note-for-post scam which may seal railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s fate.

On Tuesday, Ajay Garg, the aide of Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla, was apprehended by the CBI for his involvement in the scam. CBI sources said the investigating officers started intercepting a few numbers initially to probe the RPF recruitment. However, to their surprise, the scope of the scam extended to several departments of the Railways. ‘We have intercepts of Mahesh Kumar and Vijay Singla which we will use as evidence in court. During our probe, we found that Mahesh Kumar spent a lot of time in the office of the Railways Minister and a few key officials posted at the minister’s office are the under scanner too,’ the CBI sources said.

Besides, sources added they have prepared a questionnaire which they will send to the railway department to clarify some queries. Millennium Post had earlier reported that the CBI has evidence against Bansal. However, the sleuths till now have not received a go-ahead from the top brass of the agency. Bansal’s questioning remains a matter of time.
