Rahul’s workshop gives Bihar a miss

The much-hyped, three-day workshop for spokespersons of the Congress party could prove to be an exercise in futility as no spokespersons from several state units have been invited.
According to well-placed sources, Bihar, which has 40 Lok Sabha seats at stake, will go unrepresented at this workshop, which will be inaugurated by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Monday morning.

Sources in the party said since newly appointed Bihar Congress chief Ashok Choudhary was still to constitute the state executive, there is currently no spokesperson in the state. ‘Since there are no spokespersons whom do we invite from the state,’ said a source.

An initiative of Gandhi, this workshop is an endeavour to equip party spokespersons with skills and knowledge to effectively counter opposition attacks. It will see over 225 selected partymen from different parts of the country in attendance, said a Congress release.

Sources said that the event has been divided into three parts - subject sessions, use of technology and methods used in communicating with media and within the organisation, and scaling up the party’s communication departments in the states. Union ministers P Chidambaram, Jairam Ramesh, KV Thomas, Anand Sharma and Manish Tewari will address participants.
