Rahul tells party workers to be prepared for struggle

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked party workers not to get demoralised with the party’s performance in the 16th Lok Sabha election saying losing and winning are part and parcel of elections.

‘Politics is a game, in which victory and defeat both happen,’ Gandhi said while addressing party cadre on his visit to his parliamentary constituency Amethi.

The Congress scion, who was accompanied by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, said that the party workers should keep their morale high because it’s a game and victory and defeat both keep happening.

‘The Congress will oppose the anti-people policies of the new Bharatiya Janata Party government and work hard for preserving peoples’ rights,’ Gandhi said.

At a brief meeting with party workers at Congress office at Gauriganj, Rahul told reporters, ‘despite the fact that these are not good days for Congress in UP, the people of Amethi and Rae Bareli showed confidence in the party by supporting it and for this I thank them.’

‘Now is the time for struggle... We will struggle’, Rahul added.

He further said that his party will review Congress’ performance in the recently concluded polls soon and the process will begin from Amethi. Rahul also thanked the people of Amethi for their support during the elections.

The brother-sister duo also met the people affected by the fire mishap that gutted 64 houses at Vidhan ka Purva village. They assured all possible assistance to the victims and also interacted with them.

They also went to Gauriganj and garlanded the portrait of their father and late prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary. Priyanka thanked the people for their support and faith in them. She assured her support and presence in their bad times.

The Gandhi brother-sister duo was given a warm welcome at the Fursatganj airport on their arrival.

The Gandhi scion’s visit to Amethi comes a few days after Rahul and Congress president Sonia Gandhi offered to resign during the Congress Working Committee meet. However, the Congress leaders rejected the offer.

Rahul Gandhi won the Amethi seat with a margin of over one lakh votes. Amethi along with Rae Bareli, the seat of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, are the only two seats the party won in the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
