Rahul Gandhi’s emissary coming to UP today amid resentment in state Cong

AICC general secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Madhusudan Mistri would start his maiden four-day tour of the state from Tuesday, amid resentment brewing within the party’s rank and file for delay, in the announcement of the state executive and district organisations.

This would be the second visit of the Gujarati leader  to UP after he visited the state capital for a day on 28 June  last. AICC secretary and Mistri’s deputy Juber Khan is already camping in the state capital to chalk out the programme of the leader, who would be visiting Lucknow, Faizabad and Gorakhpur.

Earlier he was also scheduled to visit Varanasi, but it was cancelled due to a high level meeting of the party at New Delhi on 13 July.

With Gujarati v Gujarati agenda on cards in UP during the next Lok Sabha elections, as Mistri would be pitted against Amit Shah of BJP, who has already completed his second visit to UP on Sunday, holding  meetings at Lucknow, Faizabad and Gorakhpur.

Meanwhile party sources confided that the announcement of the state executive of Nirmal Khatri and of the district presidents have been kept on hold as per the direction of Mr Mistri.
‘The new UP in-charge first wants to assess the leaders himself before approving the list,’ sources said.

But party leaders are annoyed about delay in the announcement of the state office bearers and the district presidents, as it was hampering the prospect of the party for the coming Lok Sabha elections. Out of 114 district and city Congress committees in the state, the Congress was able to announce chiefs of only 31 in May, while the remaining list of 83 committees is pending.

Over 90 per cent of the remaining 83 committee are likely to get new faces as presidents of the existing districts would be changed after almost a decade of serving on the same posts. During his tour Mistri will hold meeting with the zonal in-charges and the leaders of the districts besides inaugurating zonal offices. As per programme, Mistri will reach Lucknow Tuesday morning and will start his interaction with the 8 zonal heads, his deputies and other leaders at 1100 hours after inaugurating the zonal office at the state party headquarters.

Mistri will  meet the Congress leaders of Etawah, Mainpuri, Aurriya,Kannauj, Kanpur, Unnao and Lucknow during the day and on the next day he will meeting the senior party leaders before leaving for Faizabad.
After holding several meetings with the congress leaders in Gorakhpur, he is scheduled to leave for New Delhi in the night of 12 July by train.
