Rahul Gandhi is a dud bullet: Yashwant

Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP] leader Yashwant Sinha on Thursday said that Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has failed to fire as a leader. 'Rahul Gandhi has proved to be a dud bullet which has failed to fire, he has not been able to make much impact on the voters.

That is now an established and recognised fact that he has not exactly created waves among the electorate,' said BJP leader Yashwant Sinha.

The senior BJP leader was referring to the failure of Rahul Gandhi to make an impact in the assembly elections in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP leader also said that considering Rahul Gandhi is not a very learned man nor a person with vast experience, he would not able to guide the party with a new ideology. Law Minister Salman Khurshid had recently said that the Congress general secretary should be giving future direction to the party. Sinha said that one should look at the background, learning and experience of a person before expecting some thing from him.

'This shows the complete bankruptcy of thought in the Congress Party that they expect Rahul Gandhi to lay down a new ideology,' said Sinha.

On the issue of Narendra Modi being the party's prime ministerial candidate in 2014, the BJP leader said it is not necessary to project some one as the face of the party and this decision should be taken after considering whether it would benefit the party in the elections or not.

'I am not aware of any discussion or decision within the party as to who will be the prime ministerial candidate in 2014, the party will take a decision when the times comes. BJP, in its wisdom, will take a decision at an appropriate time,' said the BJP leader.

Talking about the secular credentials of Narendra Modi, Sinha said one should explain it to him what is secularism. He said that a section of the media which is calling Modi a prime ministerial candidate for 2014 had called the same man a criminal after the 2002 Gujarat riots.
