Raghubir Nagar triple murder: 26 held for injuring cops

Following a clash between the locals of Raghubir Nagar and the Delhi Police, over the triple murder in the area on Monday, Delhi Commissioner of Police B S Bassi said that investigation in the case is on and developments in the case will be made available.

In connection with the clash, 26 persons were arrested on charges of rioting and hurting public officials on Monday night. Holding a demonstration outside the victims’ house, the neighbours and the family members of Shabnam (28), her son Imran (8) and daughter Khushi (6), had gathered to voice their concern over the inaction of Delhi Police. The demonstration turned violent when the angry mob started pelting stones at the police.

Ali Sher, the victims’ brother said: “The bodies were released at 4 pm after the post-mortem. We are angry and we clashed with the police. This can happen to anyone, anytime.”

Clash between the locals and family members of the victims and the police began at 10 pm in the area when a few locals instigated the family members of Shabnam that police are not doing enough to solve the murder mystery.

According to sources, the clash went on for two hours in which the locals pelted stones at the police personnel and also damaged the police vehicles stationed at the spot.

More than 50 police personnel were deployed to control the situation in which eight police officials were injured. Out of the eight, one was admitted to the Deen Dayal <g data-gr-id="34">Upadhayay</g> hospital while seven others were taken to Guru Gobind Singh hospital.

Pushpendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (West) said: “26 protestors were arrested for causing violence in Raghubir Nagar. Heavy pelting took place in the neighbourhood which continued for two hours. Police personnel were deployed to keep a tab since it is a sensitive area.”
