PWD inspects Kalyani Ishwar Gupta Setu

About 10,000 vehicles including motorcycles were being diverted through longer routes as the Kalyani Ishwar Gupta Setu, connecting Nadia with Hooghly district, remained closed on Sunday following cracks in its pillar joint.

With over 10,000 vehicles using this bridge on an average daily, the developments have severely affected communication between two districts, a Nadia official said.

Meanwhile a high-level PWD technical tram visited the affected pillar joint on Sunday.

PWD Engineer in chief Kumar Bhattacharjee “We have been inspecting the condition of the bridge and chalking out a solution.”

“We have decided to make a temporary path over the bridge to open traffic as soon as possible. Side by side, the repairing works under the bridge will go on. The work for the temporary road will be initiated tomorrow (Monday),” Bhattacharjee said.

The defects were noticed at joint of P2 and P3 on the bridge Saturday morning.
