Punjab Warriors blown away by Delhi Waveriders

Surely being the team to beat this opening season, Delhi Waveriders stuck to its unbeaten streak by trouncing Punjab Warriors 3-0 to strengthen their lead atop. The improved looking Warriors were expected to give a stern test to the hosts but the latter were too good on the day as they increased their points tally to 30 from seven matches. Punjab stay on third with 20 points in their kitty. Delhi skipper Sardar Singh was adjudged man of the match for his effective display in the midfield.

The first quarter started on a slow note as both teams failed to get better of the opponent’s defence.

Delhi got a chance in the 11th minute but Talwinder Singh missed a penalty corner narrowly.

Delhi took lead when Akashdeep Singh powered his shot home between two defenders. Five minutes into the second quarter, Sardar broke Punjab’s defence with a rasping shot but Jamie Dwyer somehow blocked it. In the 52nd minute, Delhi got a penalty corner which was converted by Andrew Hayward. From there on, Delhi took control of the proceedings and in the 69th minute, Simon Child scored a beauty from inside the box. Delhi face Ranchi Rhinos next.
