Punjab cops framed Vijender, claims boxer Dinesh Kumar

Dinesh Kumar, a boxer and Vijender Singh’s friend, has added a twist to the drug tale insinuating on Tuesday that the star boxer could be the victim of a frame-up. Kumar said Vijender was innocent and alleged that the Punjab Police is lying when it says that it had recovered a car in his wife’s name from outside the home of alleged drug dealer Anoop Singh Kahlon.

The Punjab police has alleged that Vijender bought heroin from Kahlon 12 times in the last few months for his own use.

Kumar, who has received an Arjuna Award for boxing, has also been questioned in the case along with Ram Singh, Vijender’s sparring partner. He told reporters that Ram Singh and he had been summoned for questioning to the police station in Fatehgarh Sahib on 7 March, a day before the police raided Kahlon’s house.

Kumar said the two boxers drove to the police station in Vijender’s car. Then, he alleged, ‘three-four cops came and said we want the vehicle. We asked them why they wanted it and we said that the vehicle belonged to Vijender and hence, we couldn’t hand it over. Despite that, they took away the keys and said they will return in an hour and a half.’

On 7 March, the police had raided Kahlon’s house to seize 26 kilograms of heroin and other drugs with a street value of Rs. 130 crore.
