Punia meets families of three Dalit girls found dead in UP

Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, PL Punia, on Sunday met families of three Dalit girls who were found dead here and assured that the commission would keep an eye on inquiry into the case.

Punia said he would try that the UP government extends financial help of at least Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the girls. Stating the incident as “unfortunate”, he said family of the girls were very poor and had not been provided house under the Indira Awas scheme.

He also slammed the state government, alleging that there was complete ‘jungleraj’ in the state. The girls, two of them minors, were found dead with head injuries in the Barhaj area on Saturday, a senior officer said.

Bodies of Priti (9), Pinky (13) and Indu (18) were found with serious head injuries near Katiyari village, SP Manoj Kumar said.

He said rape could not be ruled out, but anything concrete could be said only after receiving the girl’s postmortem report.
