Pulmonologist held for sexually assaulting 24-year-old patient

A 55-year-old well-known Pulmonologist has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 24-year-old patient at his clinic in South-east Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Friday when the 24-year-old woman, who is a resident of Karol Bagh, went to the clinic of Dr Sushil Munjal in Lajpat Nagar. It was learnt that Munjal along with his wife used to run the clinic in the area since many years. 

The victim is a regular patient of Munjal and on Friday went to his clinic for her lungs’ check-up.

The victim told police that at the time of the incident, Munjal’s wife had gone home and he was alone in the clinic. 

She further alleged that Munjal sexually assaulted her and later threatened her for life if she discloses the act. However, she approached the police and filed a complaint against Munjal.

Based on her written complaint and medical examination report (that confirmed rape), a case under the section of 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at Lajpat Nagar police station. 

During a raid, Munjal was arrested by the police, however, he claimed to be innocent. Further investigation is underway, says the police.
