Pujara, Taruwar slam triple tons

C Pujara struck second triple hundred of his first class career as Saurashtra progressed to the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy, courtesy their first innings lead over rival Karnataka, on Thursday.

Another younglad, who was the opener in  Virat Kohli’s U-19 World Cup winning side in 2008, Taruwar Kohli too slammed an unbeaten 300 as Punjab completed formalities against Jharkhand to reach the seimifinal.

Saurashtra’s high scoring quarterfinal against Karnataka ended in a draw with Saurashtra amassing 718 for nine in their second innings.Kamlesh Makwana was batting on 65 for the hosts when the two captains agreed to call off the match. Sauarashtra had scored 469 in their first innings and had restricted Karnataka to 396.

In Jamshedpur, Taruwar Kohli scored an unbeaten triple century and shared a 264-run fourth wicket stand with Uday Kaul (113 not out). Punjab entered the last-four stage by virtue of their first-innings lead of 298 runs. Resuming at 435 for three, overnight batsman Taruwar, along with Kaul, ensured that Punjab do not lose a single wicket in the entire day.
