Public health services in Ggn affected after paramedical staff go on strike

Public health services were affected in Gurgaon district as the paramedical staff on Thursday went on a hunger strike. 

The paramedical staff who are a part of the National Health Mission (NHM) employees  are demanding from the  state government of Haryana for making them permanent and revising the salaries based on their experience.   

Around twelve thousand NHM employees from Haryana districts have gone on a strike. In Gurgaon district, around seven hundred employees of 56 hospitals also abstained from their medical duties.

The strike of the workers have affected the functioning of ambulance, pediatric, gynaecology and data operating services in the hospitals of the district. 

At the city’s largest public hospital, the Civil Hospital, OPD services were greatly affected as most of the nurses were on strike. 

Section 144 was also imposed at the Civil Hospital and large number members from the police were also called in to prevent the striking workers to not cause any trouble to the patients. Giving her reaction on the situation, Dr Pushpa Bishnoi said: “The hospitals have its contractual doctors deployed at the affected departments to ensure there is no problem caused to the patients.” 

Acting tough on the situation, Health Minister Anil Vij has stated that he will terminate the services of the striking workers and bring in a new lot of professionals.
