‘Public has expressed no-confidence against Centre already’

Trinamool Congress chief said on Tuesday: ‘The public has already expressed no-confidence against the Centre and there was no need to bring a motion against the government on the issue of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.’

Three separate notices were given on Monday by six Congress members from Seemandhra region, TDP and YSR Congress, as part of their attempt to stall division of Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana. On Tuesday, both houses of parliament were adjourned for an hour as members created a din over the Telangana and JPC report on the 2G scam.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned after MPs from the Seemandhra regions shouted slogans against division of Andhra Pradesh state to create Telangana, drowning out question hour. Speaker Meira Kumar then adjourned the house till 12 noon and later for the whole day. In the Rajya Sabha, members stalled proceedings over the Telangana issue and the Joint Parliamentary Committee report on the 2G scam.

In Parliament, Mamata met BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and LK Advani along with YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy. Seemandhra MPs, who have moved the motion, also met her and sought her support. But she reportedly told them that she would not be able to support the motion in the House though she supported their cause. She is understood to have told them that the SP and the BSP will bail out the government even if there is a no-confidence motion.

The West Bengal chief minister also made it clear that TMC will ‘neither go with the Congress nor with the BJP.’ ‘We will go alone in polls,’ she said.
