PSU chiefs meet PM

A team of chief executives from Maharatna, Navratna and other publicsector enterprises met Prime Minister on Tuesday and submitted their various concerns for enhancing overall efficiency and productivity.

Briefing the media persons here after the meeting, U D Choubey, director general, SCOPE said that ‘the issues discussed included interalia improvement in MOU system, expeditious project clearance,investment plans, long term vision and strategy and  challenges facingthe CPSEs today’.

CPSEs submitted that  multilateral checks and balances in case of CPSEs are coming in the way of decision making andin turn resulting into sub-optimal performance.  The issue ofsuccession planning and faster selection of CMDs/Directors was also discussed.

Environment clearance/forest clearance for faster project implementation was also discussed.CPSEs demanded complete autonomy to their boards in day to day management, investment planning, mergers & acquisitions, creation of below Board level posts and empowerment to CMD/Board for their travelplan in the interest of business.

Choubey, DG (SCOPE) said that Prime Minister gave a patienthearing. Various issues raised by CPSEs shall be considered and will form part of the ongoing reform process of CPSEs suitably. He assured that some of the issues raised shall be ‘zeroed down’ very soon.

Arup Roy Choudhury, chairman, SCOPE and CMD, NTPC gavepresentation and highlighted contribution of CPSEs towards national economy and its exemplary performance in post-1991 period.

It was informed that in post 1991 period, there is almost 40 times increase in profitability and  about ten times increase in turnover.
