Provide basic amenities to Pak Hindus in 24-48 hours: Govt

The Delhi government has directed its officers to provide basic civic amenities to Hindu refugees from Pakistan within 24 to 48 hours and also prepare a detailed plan for their rehabilitation.

The government has also identified 17 children of the refugees eligible for admission in various classes, who will be admitted to Delhi government schools.“The departments concerned have been directed to install mobile toilets and supply ration to the needy identified by the refugees themselves within 24 hours. Besides, they have been told to instal a generator within 48 hours (in camps inhabited by refugees),” said Sandeep Kumar, Minister for Social Welfare.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting. Earlier, on the direction of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a team of Janta Samvad, led by his advisor Swati Maliwal, visited the camp. “A high-level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of Central District to monitor the progress and submit the report within 10 days. The Minister for Social Welfare will visit the camp after 10 days and take stock of the ground situation,” said a Delhi government spokesperson.

The government came into action, after a delegation of refugees met Kejriwal at Janta Samvad and requested him for help as no department was paying heed to their grievances. The CM  had immediately ordered the officials concerned to arrange drinking water and basic ration for the refugees on humanitarian grounds.

Facing regular attacks by extremist Islamic organisations, these refugees came to India eight months ago. But due to citizenship row, they have not been granted any major help.
