Protests against MSG preview chokes Ggn

Gurgaon Police was informed about the programme only a few hours before the scheduled time, after which a letter was immediately shot to the traffic department asking it to take care of the situation. Arrangements were made within an hour and police personnels were deployed in and around Sector 29. “However, traffic congestions and jams could not be avoided,” said a traffic official.

The situation turned worse when around 500 protesters, from the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the party’s student wing Indian National Student Organisation (INSO), reached outside the venue shouting slogans around 11 am. Within an hour, the traffic congestion in the area had engulfed the intersections near HUDA city centre, IFFCO chowk and the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

When the situation started to go out of hand, about 60 protesters of INLD and INSO were detained by the police in order to maintain law and order in the city and to avert clashes with the supporters of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda, informed Gurgaon Police PRO. Later, 38 workers, including the party’s vice president Anantram Tanwar and others were booked at Sadar Police station.

The rest of the workers were let off. The traffic congestion continued till 3 pm. Around 14 screens were set up on the Leisure Valley ground for the screening and head of the sect, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was present there.

Scores of protesters from the Shiromani Akali Dal also held a demonstration at Jantar Mantar in Delhi against the screening of the movie.  The crowd dispersed in the evening.
