Prosecute riders without helmets in residential lanes, says BS Bassi

Bassi was speaking at the India International Trade Fair 2014 on Saturday morning inaugurating the Road Safety Pavilion set up by Delhi Traffic Police in Pragati Maidan.

If police starts prosecuting riders for not wearing helmets in the lanes and blocks itself, then those riders will ultimately not be able to hit the roads without helmets, said Bassi. Adding to that, a senior traffic official said, it has been reported that traffic officials are lenient with the defaulters riding in the residential lanes and colony blocks.

Helmets should also be of proper quality and conform to the safety standards of ISI and other concerned bodies. ‘And it should also be mentioned that the drivers and pillion riders ensure that their helmets are properly strapped,’ the senior official added.

Commissioner Bassi also emphasised on the safety of children on the roads. ‘To ensure that there is a need to develop traffic discipline in each and every citizen of the city,’ said Bassi. He further said that there should be ‘quality prosecution’ against traffic violators and stressed that the year 2015 should be the year of quality prosecution.
